Our local area is home to Portumna Golf Club, ranked at 45th in Ireland and 1st Connacht. An hour and twenty minute drive away is Lahinch Golf Club, which is the 32nd best ranked golf course in the world.

Portumna Workhouse
During The Great Famine (An Gorta Mór), Portumna workhouse was opened as a grim survival safety net for the destitute poor in County Galway. Many would flee to America to avoid the workhouses, and in some cases workhouse owners would pay for their inmates passages to America to save money.

What's a Lake Without Water Sports?
Lough Derg is a lake which provides hours of fun. All you need is an inflatable, some rope and a boat. Unluckily we have all three.

Tour Holy Island
Holy Island is located just ten minutes away and has history dating back to the 6th Century. Accessible by boat, the island was a renowned centre of religion in Western Europe and suffered attacks from the Vikings.

The home of Brian Boru, High King of Ireland, Killaloe was the de facto capital of Ireland in the early 11th century. Now a beautiful village, complimented by its neighbour across the water, Ballina. Many traditional pubs to choose from along with restaurants and a Sunday market.

Garrykennedy is a fantastic little village, with a beautiful harbour, lovely forest walks and two brilliant traditional pubs. One is Larkin's, a family run pub from the 18th century. They serve great food and Guinness.

Lough Derg is home to a large inflatable water park accessible by car or boat. If you're bringing the kids along, this is one for the to-do-list. Each session is observed by life guards.
